How certification works for NYC residents

Since 2022, New York has no fixed list of qualifying conditions — a certified healthcare provider may certify a patient when the provider determines that medical cannabis may be clinically appropriate. That standard applies the same whether you live in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, or Staten Island. BuddMD's process is entirely telemedicine: online intake, a scheduled telemedicine evaluation, and certification if clinically appropriate — no in-person office anywhere in the five boroughs.

Using your certification at NYC dispensaries

Once certified, you're automatically registered with the New York Medical Cannabis Program. There's no physical card and no separate borough-by-borough registration — your registry ID works at any licensed dispensary in New York State, including the dispensaries throughout NYC.

Certification terms

New York certifications may run for up to two years (per New York State Senate Bill S3294A, signed November 2025, effective approximately February 2026). BuddMD offers 1-year ($119) and 2-year ($219) certifications.
